GRANTS AWARDED TO COMMUNITY GROUPS LOCAL GROUPS RECEIVED FUNDING FOR A VARIETY
OF PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT MADISON SOCIETY.

The Madison Community Foundation recently gave out $576,826 to fifteen local groups for
community projects. The largest award of $120,000 was given to the Madison Metropolitan
School District for the Read 180 program at Cherokee, Jefferson and Sennett middle schools
and Madison East High School. The program works to improve literacy for struggling
students. Other grants are: $34,000 to the Friends of the Middleton Area Performing Arts
Center to purchase a grand piano; $25,000 to the Atwood Community Center for the Youth
Volunteer Corps, $5,000 to the East Isthmus Planning Council for staff costs; $15,306 to
Downtown Madison Partners for the Lisa Link Peace Park revitalization project;
$12,000 to Benedictine Life Foundation for native prairie restoration; $114,020 to
Genesis Development Corporation for renovations at the Genesis Enterprise Center; $75,000
over two years to the Interfaith Coalition for Workers Justice for the Workers' Rights
Center; $5,000 to the North/Eastside Senior Coalition for the 2003 Summer Concert Series
in Warner Park; $5,500 to the Professional Association of Treatment Homes to support
attachment disorder training; $50,000 over two years to Research, Education, Action and
Policy on Food Group for staff support; $81,000 over three years to The Jericho Project to
create the Madison Jobs and Housing Partnership; $15,000 to the Wisconsin Chamber
Orchestra for Concert in the Woods 2003 in Spring Green; and $20,000 to the Wisconsin
Youth Symphony Orchestra for a concert weekend with cellist Lynn Harrell.
